Face Off s11e10  Cursed Covens  28 March 2017

Last time on Face Off the artists, in two
teams of four, created frightening families.

Ben, Cig, Even & George won the challenge.

Adam was eliminated from Emily's harem.

The seven remaining artists enter the work room, which has been … redecorated.  Host McKenzie Westmore introduces the 3 day Spotlight challenge:  Each team from last week is to create a coven of 3 witches or warlocks.  They pick the ingredients for ‘spells’ that each group will place on the other.

Ben, Cig, Evan & George are drawn to the pickled rats.

I don’t even want to know.

Logan wants a goat.

Well, yes, there is that.

Now I'm confused.
I knew Stevie Nicks was at least
somewhat associated with witch-dom.
But, Al Stewart, too?

On the spot the teams have to figure out what curse has been cast on their own creations.

“Suffocating Sage of Willow.”

“Th-th-th-uffocating …”

“… Willow?”

“The Shadow of the Spiteful Serpent.”

“Did someone say Serpent?”

They caucus and sketch and soon get to work.

Mentor Michael Westmore comes in on day one.

After looking at Team BCEG’s sketches of the warlock, he questions their story line (witches to snakes.)  He wants them to push it further, and something to tie them all together.

Logan is going to put luminescent mushrooms in the back!  Mr. Westmore is impressed with how far along Team Emily & The Shrinking Harem are.

At the end of day one, Team BCEG doesn’t like their sculpts at all.  They decide to start again on day two.

On day two BCEG remove the snake portion and focus on the rat bit.

“It’s a wise decision.”

Emily thinks her witch is too generic.   Logan suggests she have small horns, to be more cohesive with his large horned warlock.

On day three Ben gets an edit of not doing the hands for his witch as well as he had intended.   Hmmmm.

On the reveal stage  it’s the standard, host McKenzie Westmore, and regular judges Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, and Neville Page.

Team Emily, Logan & Tyler

Team Ben, Cig, Evan & George

On closer inspection Neville finds Emily’s work boring, but the other judges admire her work.  All like the work of Logan and Tyler.

The judges praise the work of BCEG except for Ben’s, they find his work anemic compared to the others.

So, it’s Emily vs. Ben for the auf?

“The auf?  Really?”

Glenn calls the decision to only go in the rat direction brilliant.   The judges love Cig’s ‘rat’ hand work.  He finds the sculpt on Ben’s not as good as the others.  Ve praises the hand work on everyone’s witch except for Ben’s.   Except, Ve loves his ears.

“What about *my* ears?”

The judges love the sculpting and the back story of Emily & The Boys’ work.  Tyler’s work gets the most praise.  Neville thinks Emily sculpt is not interesting.  She jumps in, in agreement.   Wait, that can’t be good!   Glenn reminds us all, even if the sculpt is poor, the paint job is most important, and her great paint job saved it.  Glenn is quite complimentary towards each witch.

Emily, Logan & Tyler win the challenge,
with Tyler being the individual winner.
They are ecstatic.

Bottom teach is BCEG:
Ben, Cig, Evan & George.

Ben is eliminated.

Did you see that coming?
Is this the top 6 you were expecting?

Tune in next week when the top six compete individually to create an alien delegate for an intergalactic congress.

I guess as long as they don’t make
any yarn people I’m down with it.
