Walking  7 • 30 March 2016

I walked 7 miles Wednesday morning and forgot to log it until just now.  I'll do the same route tomorrow, maybe even with extra backtracking to make it 8 miles.   Let's see how long I go without posting THAT.   XD

Face Off s10e12  Skull Island: Reign Of Kong  30 March 2016

Last time on Face Off the top five contestants
created World Of Warcraft humanoids.

Walter won the challenge,

while Yvonne was sent home.

We open with the final four in an army vehicle, heading up to meet host McKenzie Westmore and guest presenter Mike West.

"No relation."

"Me neither."

The challenge?
To somehow tie in with Universal Orlando's new
"Skull Island: Reign Of Kong" attraction opening:

The task is to create a human hybrid of a
creature they could find on Skull Island.

Or what being has evolved from the inspiration, over time.

No one gets "gorilla."

(Sniff) No one.

The opening edit with only Mel & Melissa talking, and talking, and talking, and especially with Mel (saying Walter is closer to the back of the jeep) thinking she is gonna make it through if someone falls off, well, it's just too much.   Now we know who is winning and who is going home!   No fair!   We don't want to be spoon fed the winner and person eliminated right off the bat!

Speaking of bats ... Walter gets bat-rat, Mel gets a trilobite-like insect, Rob gets dinosaur and Melissa gets something crab-like.

Back at the work room lab,
Rob thinks his mouth is too cartoony.
He decides to add teeth to cover it.

When the Westmores arrive ...

Rob is told to pick what is most important, and stress that, and almost hide the other aspects.  (He has too much goin' on.)

Melissa is told to sculpt a bit of the neck, so they don't have to worry about the costume completely covering it.

Walter is told to avoid peach and stick to a tan skin tone.

Mel's looks too much like a mask.

Mel decides she has to start over.    In fact, she does so again at the end of the day.   In essence she will only have 2 work days on her creation, while the others have three, right?  Ce n'est pas bon!

Ya wanna jump to the reveal stage?  I do.   No guest judges.  Just McKenzie, Glenn, Ve & Neville.

Walter wanted to separate the wings from the hands.  Glenn is impressed with the face sculpt.  He gives painting advice, though.  He also wanted him to push himself farther.  Ve picks on the paint job, and the wings (they should be lower and drawn in.)  Neville praises the forehead and eye area, both sculpt and paint.

Mel wanted to evolve her insect to a biped.   Ve likes the idea.   From far away it is muddy, but up close is nice.  Neville wanted an even better paint job.  Glenn detests the mouth, it doesn't allow for much possibility for the model to manipulate.

Rob braces himself for a poor critique.  When Neville says "You're so damn good at sculpting!" Rob is immediately relieved.   The judges do pick on him for the poor paint job, but again, they praise the great detail of the sculpt.  He should have used the wardrobe to cover the worst areas of the painting.

Melissa thinks her creature is a smarter scavenger.  Glenn thinks she sculpted and painted exactly right.  He wants the front feelers moved, that's it.  Ve especially likes the paint scheme.   Neville admires the chest piece.  The work is all complete and interesting.

Melissa is the winner!  She gets a trip to Universal Orlando.  Walter is also in.

Bottom two are Mel & Rob.

Rob moves forward to the finale.

Mel had been praised for doing her best work yet, but it wasn't detailed enough with either the sculpt or the paint.

"Gone!  To hell with ‘em!
Who needs ‘em?  The world loves me!"

Did the Winner's & Loser's Edits at the top of the show ruin it for you?   Or were you thinking Rob was gonna go home for not finishing his painting?

McKenzie warns them to get sleep.  What could possibly happen next?  (Besides a video call from home, I mean.)

Tune in next week for part one of the final challenge.  More mini-films, right?

RuPaul's Drag Race s8e04
New Wave Queens • 28 March 2016

Last time on RuPaul's Drag Race the contestants
'over'acted in scenes from RuCo's Empire.

Bob The Drag Queen edged out

Thorgy Thor for the win.

Robbie Turn(t)er was in the bottom two.

However, it was our beloved
Cynthia Lee Fontaine that was eliminated.

It’s a new day in L.A., but there’s no mini challenge this time.   We get a 'purse first' edit to fill the time.

The maxi challenge is to create and sing (not lip synch!) to a retro punk/new wave era inspired original tune.   (Music is provided, they’ll come up with the lyrics.

Oh, yeah, shock, horror.

There are three teams of three.  They pick their own teams.  Chi Chi is so worried about her runway look (separate from the retro music group challenge) that she splinters off from the group to do her thing.   She’s not mean, but she’s not integrated with the other two.

But, she had time to throw some shade.

So, she left the team challenge to work on her runway look,
but then left that to just talk about doing it in the shade tree room.

Over on Team NY Thorgy Thor is butting heads with the other two.  Team Chicken Wing seems to be getting along.

They get to rehearse in front of Lucian Piane!  With Team Synth, Derrick, who sings, is told to match the less vocally talented members by ‘talk’ singing with them.  That must be a bit off putting, huh?

Mr. Piane wants Punk Team Chicken Wing to turn up the volume and intensity.  They aren’t punk enough.

With Party Team NY, Thorgy Thor doesn’t seem happy with what they have so far.  Bob TDQ is a bit combative.  He’s not understanding all of the references Lucian is trying to get Bob to embody.  He wants less theatre and more cool indifference

While they get ready, Chi Chi shares about how poor she is.

Joining Ru, Michelle & Lucian on stage are Chris Stein & Debbie Harry (Blondie!)

Street Meatz is a hit.  Each is energetic enough.  The mini crowd eats it up.

Dragometry seems lesser.  It’s alright, I guess.  They aren’t on point, that’s it, they are less in synch with each other.  Oh, wait, the mini crowd loves this one, too.  Groupies.

The judges adore Les Chicken Wings.  Everyone does.

As for the runway ...

Derrick Barry

Naysha Lopez

Chi Chi DeVayne

Kim Chi

Robbie Turner

Naomi Smalls

Acid Betty

Thorgy Thor

Bob The Drag Queen

Les Chicken Wings is the top team.

Robbie Turner is the winner of the challenge.  He wins wigs from Weaven Steven.

Robbie gushes over Debbie Harry.

Over on Untucked Chris & Debbie go backstage to wish Robbie a Happy Birthday!  THAT is special.

As for critiques:  Bob immediately straight up apologizes to Lucian Piane for how he acted during the rehearsal.   Smart man.  Michelle praises her going more towards fashion than rachet.

Michelle thinks Thorgy Thor’s runway look is too busy.   Lucian was riveted by the performance.

Chris & Debbie are amazed by Acid Betty’s runway creation.  Michelle saw more Patty Duke than Acid Betty during the performance, and called her out of synch.

And, yes, quite eerily, R.I.P. Patty Duke.

"Yeah, right, identical."

Michelle was so happy to not see Brittany Spears on the performance.  Lucian clocks her for not giving 100%.  If it ain’t Brittany, it ain’t worth a bona fide commitment?  On the runway the look is nice, but anemic.

Chris & Debbie think she could play Debbie / Blondie!

Ru seems to like Naysha’s runway outfit and her natural butt.

Michelle didn’t like the performance outfit.

As soon as Naysha says the looks were a group effort, Chi Chi shakes her head and they are at odds with each other (not in a mean spirited way, but, still, at each other.)

Michelle stops Chi Chi right there when she complains about not having enough money to present good looks on the runway.   Michelle reminds Chi Chi that investment and determination aren’t limited by lack of funds.  Chris notes that Chi Chi wore the same boots for everything this week!

Over on Untucked Chi Chi got a video message from her mom.

Back on the runway, Bob The Drag Queen,
Thorgy Thor and Acid Betty are all safe.

Derrick gets a beating, but is safe.

Bottom two are Naysha & Chi Chi.

They both seem to be doing alright lip synching to Blondie’s 1980 #1 hit “Call Me,” but Chi Chi has more energetic gymnastic feats.   Chi Chi stays, Naysha is gone (again.)

I really wanted to hear more about Kim Chi’s look this week, I was mesmerized by *that!*

As she was leaving, Naysha left a couple of outfits for Chi Chi.

Good on you, girl.  That put a smile on my face that will last a long time.

Next week is Snatch Game, eh?
