Face Off s6e10 What A Dahl 18 March 2014

Last time on Face Off the makeup artists created victims of mad scientists.

Top two were Chloe & Daran, with Daran winning.

Bottom two were Rashaad & Corinne, with Corinne going home.  She had too simple a look with unnecessary prosthetics.

Sweetie Pie's/Robbie Montgomery Rashaad gets the morning in L.A. edit.  He was in the bottom for the first time last week.

The remaining seven contestants meet up with McKenzie and Roald Dahl's daughter Lucy Dahl at Pasadena's Kidspace Children's Museum.  In honor of the 50th anniversary of his book Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, the challenge is to bring to life a character from the book that has NOT been imagined on the screen yet.

They choose from Vermicious Knids, Hornswagglers, Whangdoodles and Snozzwangers.  They live in the thickest of jungles and they are the most dangerous beasts in the world.   McKenzie says their creation must feel right at home in the world of Roald Dahl.  They choose giant crayons that have their Proper Noun printed on the side.  Lucy wants them to exaggerate the truth of these creatures.

They sketch at the museum.  Rashaad is getting a heavy edit.  No!  Don't go home yet!  To be fair, we don't know WHICH edit he is getting.  Soon they are all explaining their concepts, and all seem reasonable, so maybe it was just a fake out, maybe there is no Winner or Loser Edit in play.

Nico is going more cute and silly than the rest.   Daran isn't used to creating whimsical characters.  He is sketching longer than usual.  He does settle on an idea, though.

Graham thinks this will be the weirdest makeup he has ever done.  He is concerned that he shows something cool so that the judges are not regretting that they saved him a couple of episodes ago.

Chloe doesn't like what she has sculpted, so she trashes her first work and starts in on a venus fly trap look.

Westmore Walk-thru!

Daran explains his creature.  Michael likes it.  He wants to see some drool.

Chloe needs advice on the mouth.  Mr. W. suggests a round mouth, like the inside of a flower.

Tyler wants yellowish orange tones.  Mr. Westmore advises him to have runny brown, that way it looks like it has just come out of the ground with some mud still on him.

Rashaad has a B&W two tone look.

Gotta love that.

Niko is told to go wild on the skin texture and color/pattern.

Graham hears that his work is clever.  He gets some scoring/accordion advice for the jaw area.

George has a friendly creature?  Mr. Westmore advises him to go more powerful (intimidating) and less human.   George decides to start over.

On day two we see Niko and Chloe do an awful lot of sculpting.  Niko gets his work done, but Chloe has all kinds of trouble.  On day three, reveal day, she'll rework her face piece.

Rashaad & Tyler crack me up.

Rashaad and Tyler each started paining on day two.  That still amazes me, that they are painting so much earlier than the contestants did in prior seasons.  They listening to the judges even before they were on the show.  Good work!

Chloe has trouble with her mold in the morning of day three.  She spend so much time on her sculpts, and used hardly anything, no cowl at all.  That is rough, and must be playing on her mind.  She does start painting before that last hour.  Niko is worried he won't finish with the paint.

Joining judges Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill and Neville Page is Lucy Dahl.

Rashaad, Daran and George are called out as middle safe and sent out back.

Tyler created an earthworm/cockroach creature that lives under the ground.  They would reach out and grab unsuspecting Oompa-Loompas.  Glenn praises his decision making.  Ve calls it successful and beautiful.  Neville deems it complete.  Lucy says her father would love it.

Niko wanted to make something silly, wacky and funny.  Ve thinks the body work was superfluous.   Glenn hates the goofy static gaze, and thinks it would be a victim, not a threat.

Chloe's idea was a plant that eats the Oompa Loompas.  Neville calls it hurried and incomplete.  Poor Chloe is in tears.  Lucy is understanding.  Glenn thinks her paint job is lacking.

Graham sure pleased Lucy with his work.  Glenn says they made the right decision in saving him a couple of weeks ago.  Ve likes the funhouse aspect of the mouth.

Top two are Tyler and Graham.

Tyler wins!  That's his third win.  Only he and Daran have had 3 wins this season.

Bottom two are Chloe and Niko,

with Chloe being eliminated.

It's rough because we know she can do much better, but she earned it with the lack of work on stage, compared to the others.

And now we have a top six of all men.  This is more par for the course than you'd think.

In counting episodes left, it seems like there are more coming down the pike than are needed to get to the final three finale.  Will someone come back?  Will they not eliminate someone again?  Not sure what will transpire.

  1. So glad to find your blog! You recap all my favorite shows! Yay! I'll be coming back!

  2. Wait, I can't publish here if I'm a robot? Hmm. We may have a problem.
