28 years ago this week ...

God, I loved the Eighties.

See if you remember any of these, the top 40 of this week in 1984.  All of my pop history books are still in storage, so this is still (mostly) off the top of my head.

Oddities to contemplate, instead of how much we hate Romney and/or Obama, et al.

Remakes: 30 (Prince, Pointer Sisters,) 28 (Spider,) 21 (Drifters) and 17 (Persuaders and Robert Palmer)

In with the same recording a 2nd time in 1-2 years: 13 & 12

Seemingly underperforming, compared to recent successes: 40, 24, 21, 20, 16

Seemingly overperforming: 26, 14, 7, 3 and 1

Oh how the mighty have fallen, or, we're used to you underperforming: 37 & 34.

Five acts are in with their biggest pop hit in the states ever:  40 (JK,) 12, 9, 7 & 6.  I'm not counting 11 because of later solo work.   I'm not including 27 (solo work) because of earlier group work.

Sick of ALL of these songs?  Any of these NOT ring a bell?

ILYM
